Jayshree Boot - India

Saath Charitable Trust, Ahmedabad : Strategy meeting of women working at the urban resource centre

VSO has extended resources and training to develop Paropkaar programme of Asian Foundation of Philanthropy (AFP) and therefore has placed 35 British Asian volunteers in India. Jayshree says, “I had a unique opportunity, especially as my placement was in Gujarat – being fluent in the local language helped me be more effective.” She volunteered as an organisational development advisor at Saath, an organisation working to bring long-lasting change to the slums of Ahmedhabad. She provided advice and training on empowering local communities, focusing on advocacy, rights-based approaches to development and promoting positive images of community work. She said, “Saath made maximum use of my skills”, which indicated the success of her volunteering and consequently she is on the way to furtherance of her skill sharing by volunteering in Philippines.
