SHARP HIV & AIDS awareness programme in Kabompo district

Teacher training workshops held throughout Kabompo district resulted in 154 teachers trained to run a schools HIV & AIDS awareness programme called SHARP.

This led to a total of 5000 students in Kabompo district receiving HIV & AIDS training. The same teacher training workshops were conducted in each district throughout north-western province and led to ten trainers from each district able to work with the District Education Office and train other teachers in HIV & AIDS education.

Consequently up to 70, 000 young people in the province could be reached. A district committee (comprising teachers and district officials) was established in Kabompo to oversee the delivery of the SHARP HIV & AIDS awareness programme to all schools in the district. This was achieved without a volunteer placement at the district office but through VSO volunteer teachers based at the nearby high school.
