VSO Everest Base Camp Trek
For Accenture employees
Trek 1: 9 - 28 March 2009 (trek now full)
Trek 2: 21 March - 9 April 2009 (trek now full)
This once in a lifetime trek is non technical (no prior experience is required) and open to all Accenture employees,
regardless of geography, workforce and level.
The Everest Base Camp challenge is a charity project set up by Accenture employees to raise money in support of the VSO education programme in Nepal, helping the next generation of Nepalese to fulfil their potential.
An intrepid group will undertake a fourteen day trek to reach Everest expedition base camp and on to Kala Pattar reaching 5545m above sea level.
There will also be a rare opportunity to visit a Nepalese school in Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu valley.
This is a unique chance to see the education on offer in Nepal and to gain a true
understanding of how the money you raise will benefit Nepalese children.
VSO volunteers work in the District Education Offices to provide support to schools and training to teachers.
The VSO/Accenture overseas challenge initiative began in 2006 when
25 UK employees climbed the highest mountain in Africa Kilimanjaro.
In 2008 over ninety more employees from eight countries will trek
to Kilimanjaro with their fundraising efforts supporting the work
of VSO.
How to secure a place
You can sign up for the challenge of a lifetime and help change lives for future generations in Nepal.
This will be a demanding physical challenge and is an altitude trek, but there are no technical climbs
and the trek requires no previous trekking experience, please see the
training plan for more detail on how to prepare.
After reading all of the information below and ensuring that it is all understood, please fill in the registration form and email it to the events team.
You will then have two weeks to secure your place by paying your
deposit, you will be contacted by VSO to take the (non-refundable)
deposit of £300 in the form of a card payment over the phone or
you can pay this online at www.vso.org.uk/giving/donate.
If you choose to pay online please do not check the Gift
Aid box, mention the Accenture Global Everest Base Camp
Trek in the 'What brought you to our website' box,
and let us know you have done this.
There are limited places and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
We will also have a reserve list in the eventuality of someone
dropping out. After your payment has cleared, VSO will be in touch
and will send you your registration pack in the post with lots of
fundraising information to help get you started.
How much will it cost?
Please note that the minimum you need to raise to participate is £1,500. The more money you raise, the lower the costs for you to join the trek (you could be trekking for as little as £300 plus the cost of your flights) and the more impact you will have on the provision of education in Nepal.
For UK participants, Gift Aid is not included within the sponsorship targets set - but please do claim every penny you are eligible for to contribute even more and give as higher team target as possible.
