Community linking scheme
VSO volunteers are leaving the UK all the time on exciting, daunting and rewarding journeys around the world to fight poverty. A very popular way for your community group to support VSO is through our Community Linking Scheme. It's your group's chance to sponsor a volunteer, and in return get a first-hand account of how a VSO volunteer makes a lasting difference to disadvantaged communities.
All you need to do is inform us of the type of volunteer you'd like to link with (i.e. someone from your local area) and make a commitment for your group to raise £1,250 over the course of a year, to donate to VSO to help continue our work.
In return we will find a suitable volunteer and establish a link between you. They will come and talk to your group before they leave; send four updates a year about their placement and work; and, on their return, will come and talk to you about their experience, giving you real satisfaction in knowing your fundraising has had a lasting effect.
Groups that are currently taking part include Rotary Clubs, Soroptomists, youth and church groups plus a variety of professional and charitable organisations.
“This year we are pleased to be linked with a volunteer working as an HIV and AIDS advisor for a charity for blind people in Mozambique. Tina sent us a very interesting newsletter at the start of her time in Mozambique, and we look forward to learning more about her work and experiences.” Central Birmingham Soroptomists
