Accenture and VSO's partnership began in 1999 with Accenture employees sharing their valuable skills in developing countries as VSO volunteers; since then 90 employees from 8 geographies have volunteered and undertaken VSO placements.
The Accenture and VSO partnership continues to go from strength to strength. In 2006 Accenture became VSO's Secure Livelihoods Goal Champion and gave a grant of $1.29million for VSO's work in improving income generation opportunities for some of the poorest communities in the world. 2006 also saw the first overseas fundraising challenge, since then over 200 Accenture staff from ten countries have chosen to trek Mount Kilimanjaro or to Everest Base Camp for VSO, raising over £755,000 ($1,510,000) for VSO projects in Africa and Nepal.
