Stand Up and Take Action
From 17th to 19th October, as part of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) Alliance, VSO will be supporting the 3rd annual ‘Stand Up’ event and we’d like you to get involved!
Nearly half the world’s population live in poverty - with 50,000 people dying every day from avoidable malnutrition and disease. The 8 Millennium Development Goals were created to help countries around the world work towards eradicating these problems by 2015, but currently not enough is being done to achieve these targets.
The ‘Stand Up’ campaign aims to put pressure on world leaders to work towards achieving these goals on time by creating a ‘living petition’ of people who literally stand up against poverty. Last year 43.7 million people in 127 countries took a stand, and this year we want even more, hopefully enough to achieve set a new Guinness World Record of people campaigning against poverty!
