The GX Partnership
British Council
The British council is the UK's international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities. Through the ties that it creates between people in the UK and other countries, it helps to break down the barriers to understanding and to build lasting relationships.
VSO
VSO is an international development charity that works through volunteers. VSO was voted top international development charity in the International Aid and Development category at the Charity Awards 2004 for its work in promoting innovative approaches to globalising volunteering.
Our approach to volunteering has changed dramatically over the years. Today the average age of a volunteer is 38 and most placements are for two years. Global Xchange is part of our Youth programme which aims to give opportunities for people aged 18 - 25 to volunteer around the world.

BAA Communities Trust is cementing its partnership with VSO to support the Global Xchange programme for the third year in a row.
The Trust, set up by airport operator BAA, is providing backing for four programmes during 2006 and 2007, linked to the communities around BAA’s South East airports.
To help fund the programmes, the Trust is working with v, a new youth volunteering charity launched by the UK Government in May 2006.
The Trust will invest more than £150,000 towards the four Global Xchange programmes, matched pound for pound by v with the joint aim of inspiring more young people to get engaged in volunteering and community action.
The partnership will fund exchanges linked to the communities around Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Southampton Airports, with the overseas visits based in Kazakhstan, India, Mongolia and the Philippines.
BAA Communities Trust was established 10 years ago by BAA. Since then it has made grants of nearly £4 million for projects in the communities local to the company’s seven UK airports, to support charitable initiatives by staff and to global projects linked to youth development.
Trust chairman Mike Toms said:
"Our partnership with v enables us to unlock extra money and create new ways for more young volunteers to help their communities – and at the same time develop valuable skills for themselves.
Global Xchange is the perfect programme to achieve this aim, with air travel creating a vital bridge between cultures."
v was launched in May with a key objective of inspiring 1 million more young people to volunteer. The Government has set aside up to £50 million over three years to support the nationwide initiative.
