About our group
We see our three roles as being:
- Friendly support and advice for those wishing to work overseas, and those who have returned.
- Publicity and some fundraising for VSO.
- Raising local awareness of development issues through public events and other activities.
We always take part in the One World Week Launch in Cardiff. Recent activities have included joining a procession through the City Centre and "Drumming out the Debt" on the steps of St David's Hall. About 20 of us had a couple of hours workshop with a local drumming teacher and then gave a public performance while the G8 tied in chains. Finally the chains broke and the drummers were set free.
In the last couple of years we have held public events on Tourism and FairTrade, supported several recruitment events, including the Open Day last summer, held information and fundraising stalls at festivals and other local events. Our recent fundraising successes have included fiendishly difficult Quiz Sheets devised by our in-house genius, Claudia, a not-so-difficult quiz evening and a party for of one of the member's birthday.
The group is affiliated to the Jubilee Debt Campaign.
When and where we meet
The group meets about once a month, the next date is usually set at the end of a meeting. We usually meet in a member's house though sometimes we meet in public places. For details of the next meeting contact Lin and Brian. The monthly meetings usually start with group business, planning future events and feedback from past events, followed by information exchange and socialising.
