Do you enhance the skills of a small set of end users? Or enable thousands to learn I.T. for the first time?

This was the decision Alex had to make when he signed up to volunteer with VSO. Having already trained over 25 teachers and set up a Digital Campus for one university in Ethiopia, Alex, working as an IT Advisor & Trainer, is looking at innovative ways to extend the training to reach thousands of students over time. His dilemma is how to best train teachers and students at Mekelle University – is it better to intensively train teachers to create their own online content, or to spend the time creating central resources to make them available as quickly and easily as possible?

It’s decisions like this that make becoming a volunteer with VSO one of the most rewarding experiences of your life, whether you're an IT Advisor like Alex, or a computing professional of any kind. You will take your skills and experiences and transfer them to a totally new environment and not only make a difference yourself – your knowledge will be passed on to those you work with, and to the people they work with, long after you're back in the UK.

Alex is currently volunteering with us – visit his blog to find out more about his story and exactly how he is using his skills and experience to make a difference every day. Or come along and meet us at one of our many events, where you can find out in person why and how you can do the same.
