VSO UK Director(Interim)
As part of an exciting new development, we are looking for an interim Director of VSO UK, while the current postholder leads on developing a strategic youth initiative. VSO UK is the part of VSO that oversees activities based in the UK, primarily fundraising from UK public and UK institutions, recruiting international volunteers from the UK, and influencing UK public awareness and policy.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, and as part of the Global Leadership Team, the successful candidate will join at a time of significant change in VSO. We have developed plans to making a step increase in our global income generation, (fundraising from the public as well as from institutions and foundation), and a step reduction in our global administration costs, so we can put even more of our resources into high impact programmes and demonstrate even better value for money. We are also developing our accountability to all stakeholders, and strengthening our governance.
The priorities for the Interim Director is therefore to lead the existing talented team, to encourage and support them to deliver the operational priorities, while also ensuring that they are appropriately involved and engaged so they can positively implement the changes envisaged. The successful candidate will also need to support and develop the recently revitalized UK Board.
We are looking for an experienced senior manager, ideally with
• experience in the top team at a similar sized or larger organisation.
• appreciation of international development issues.
• experience of leading large teams through times of change.
• significant experience of external representation of an organisation, whether in media, policy making, politics, marketing or brand.
The length of the assignment is subject to change, but could be for 3-6 months, dependent on external factors.
