Media - Intern (Unpaid)
VSO is the world’s leading independent international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. This internship is based in VSO UK’s media team, part of the External Affairs team which works to maximise VSO’s impact on poverty through influencing UK policy and public opinion.
The intern will work with the media manager and press officer to help implement VSO's media strategy and, in particular, to launch and promote a new campaign on decent jobs in developing countries. The media intern's role will primarily involve organising and promoting a campaign launch event, media monitoring, contact development and other PR activities. It's a very inclusive team, so there will be a chance to experience most elements of campaign planning.
In return, the intern will gain solid experience of media work for an established international development organisation. This is an opportunity to learn about how NGOs use the media for advocacy purposes, from the planning through to the pitching and launch of a major new campaign. The intern will also gain an understanding of other functions within the External Affairs team including policy, public campaigning and parliamentary relations.
This work will contribute to the External Affairs team’s overall aim of fostering changes in policy and practice that will have positive impacts on the lives of the world’s poorest people.
