Funding for HIV and AIDS programme

The Community Fund (UK National Lottery funder) has agreed to provide funding for a four-year initiative in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to combat the potentially crippling growth of HIV & AIDS. The work is focused on three highly disadvantaged and predominately rural districts in Central and Northern PNG. The project, called Tokaut AIDS (“Talk about AIDS” in PNG pidgin), aims to reduce the risk of infection in rural communities, with a focus on younger people and women, and to improve the quality of life and care provision for people living with or affected by HIV & AIDS. Among a variety of activities to increase knowledge, improve services and reduce stigma, an extensive programme of Awareness Community Theatre will be implemented with the Foundation for People and Community Development (FPCD) to reach rural communities normally too isolated to receive reliable information.
