AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca is a major international healthcare business engaged in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of prescription pharmaceuticals and the supply of healthcare services. AstraZeneca is listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (Global) as well as the FTSE4 Good Index.
In 2006, in a new approach for the company in applying its employees' skills and experience to where they can be most useful in helping developing communities, AstraZeneca entered into a partnership with VSO.
The partnership has two main features:
1. AstraZeneca is providing financial and strategic support for VSO's Health goal.
2. AstraZeneca employees will be sent on volunteer placements with VSO for between 1 month to 1 year. These placements will draw on the employee's skills to help build local professional capabilities and improve important infrastructures to help address VSO's 6 development goals.
David Brennan, CEO, AstraZeneca says:
"We are very excited by the partnership. For the developing communities the transfer of crucial skills gives the opportunity for sustainable growth. For our employees, it provides the opportunity to make a personal contribution whilst developing their skills in leadership, collaboration and project management as part of their career development. And for the company it is an important part of our commitment to the developing world and an investment in our future with globally orientated managers."
Chris Hill, VSO Partnership Director, AstraZeneca says:
"By demonstrating our commitment to local communities in this way we are helping develop and improve skills and infrastructures in areas that need it most. It also gives our employees the opportunity to have a fantastic experience whilst developing themselves both personally and professionally."
