NHS International Framework

The Department of Health has published the 'NHS Framework for Involvement in International Development'. This is a document offering advice and examples of best practice for NHS organisations and individuals interested in international work.

Proving the benefits of international work

For UK health professionals the Framework may be a helpful resource to show the support for international work from within the NHS and Department of Health, when talking with employers about taking time to work with VSO. The Framework states:

'Working in complicated and challenging environments assists healthcare professionals to consolidate and develop a range of hard and soft skills, such as clinical, managerial, leadership, cultural and educational skills.'

After international work, health professionals bring these skills home, benefiting patient care in the UK. Making this case to employers helps them recognise the value of international experience, and how it can offer unique personal and professional development.

More details of the Framework can be accessed on the International Health Links Centre website.
