AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca is a major international healthcare business engaged in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of prescription pharmaceuticals and the supply of healthcare services.
In 2006, AstraZeneca joined VSO’s Business Partnership (VBP) scheme, so its employees' skills and experience can used in a new way to help developing communities.
The partnership has two main features:
AstraZeneca provides financial and strategic support for VSO's health goal
AstraZeneca employees are sent on VSO volunteer placements of 1-12 months.
These placements will draw on the employee's skills to help build local professional capabilities and improve important infrastructures to help address VSO's six development goals.
"For the developing communities the transfer of crucial skills gives the opportunity for sustainable growth. For our employees, it provides the opportunity to make a personal contribution whilst developing their skills in leadership, collaboration and project management as part of their career development. And for the company it is an important part of our commitment to the developing world and an investment in our future with globally orientated managers."
David Brennan, chief executive, AstraZeneca
