We recognise that for many people, living and working overseas for a year* or more is a big commitment and entails considerable change in personal and financial circumstances. So at VSO we will give you all the training you need before you go, together with support during your year and when you return. Financial supportIn return for your commitment, you will receive a comprehensive package of financial assistance including local salary and an assistance grant on your return. Read more about support & benefits Information about sabbaticalsA sabbatical from your current job can be a practical way to undertake professional development, especially if you are only away for a year. But convincing your employer of the benefits to both you and them can sometimes be a challenge. We have developed a Guide to Sabbaticals in Education that offers practical advice to help you build a convincing case to take a leave of absence for a VSO placement. VSO's role in CPDA VSO placement often enables teachers to acquire skills not normally gained in the classroom - training skills, material development, course design, workshop delivery and advocacy - as well as developing 'softer' skills such as self assurance, negotiating skills, resourcefulness, creativity and working with others. With the support of the NASUWT, we can provide you with a CPD Resource Pack. The pack suggests engaging activities to help you review and document your skills and abilities as they develop while you are overseas. Next: Next steps * A VSO teaching placement for one year also includes a three-month in-country training programme and we are, therefore, looking for a 15-month commitment in total. |
