VSO - Sharing Skills, Changing Lives

    Step By Step

It may be that when you think about embarking on a fundraising campaign you are faced with the seemingly impossible question: where do I begin? Below is our guide to help you speak with authority about VSO, build your own network, how and which media to approach, and how to begin online right now.

Step 1: Know the VSO Facts

To be able to explain what VSO is to a potential donor – what their money will support, and why they should give – you need a good understanding of the organisation. And as you learn more about VSO and the work we do, you will also develop a clearer idea of your part in VSO’s development work, and if you are a volunteer, your own motivations for volunteering and your expectations of the experience.

    Step 2: Build a Network

Fundraising is all about asking people for support. Your contacts in your family, workplace, social circles and local community are key to making your fundraising easier and successful. You’ll be amazed at how many contacts you have, who you could involve and all the possible ways they can help.

    Step 3: Communicate

Approaching the Media may seem intimidating, but journalists are always on the lookout for good stories. But before you make the first phone call, read our advice for some helpful tips.

Step 4: Harness the power of the Internet

The Internet has made many everyday tasks easier and faster. The same is true for fundraising. You can send a personal message and gather cash at the click of a button, so the time you would have spent contacting people individually is free for planning your fundraising activities.
    Success Story
Barbara and Adrian Redmond organised a sponsored walk which friends and family also took part in as collected sponsors. They raised over £1900.
