Resources And Grants > Stories - Fair trade radio show and petition at a London hospital

Carolyn Deacon, volunteer in Cambodia 2003-2004, campaigned at a large London hospital to raise awareness of Fair Trade amongst staff and patients.

Carolyn presented a show on hospital radio to engage staff, patients and visitors with the idea of Fair Trade, this was very effective in generating discussion. She followed this up with a petition for Fair Trade products to be made available in the hospital and a subsequent meeting with hospital facilities manager means that many Fair Trade products are now on sale. Carolyn said “I enjoyed engaging with the patients and visitors and it was very apparent that most of them had no awareness of interest in Fair Trade. I was able to inform them and give them leaflets so hopefully this will help them recognise the logo, which may have sown a seed for the future and perhaps influence their shopping choices”. Carolyn’s Global Education work was an effective way to raise awareness of Fair Trade, and show others how simple everyday actions can have a direct impact on the lives of people in developing countries.
