VSO - Sharing Skills, Changing LivesNews from around VSO > GuyanaRaising awareness of disability(27 April 2005) VSO Guyana, in partnership with the National Commission on Disability, has just secured US$15,000 from UNICEF for a research and training project aiming to raise the profile of disability as a development issue. Spearheaded by the preparatory work of volunteer Hannah Mitchell, the project will generate invaluable information about the nature of disabilities in Guyana to inform policy and services. Members of the community will be trained to collect this data with the secondary effect of building their skills in community-based research. The results of the project will be shared with Organisations of People With Disabilities, Government departments and non-government organisations to strengthen their work with disability issues in Guyana.
