Voluntary redundancy
Voluntary redundancy is a financial incentive organizations might use to encourage employees to voluntarily terminate their employment.
Although voluntary redundancy can be challenging for those affected and for the staff who remain, it does have its advantages when properly considered. Voluntary redundancy gives employees in the workforce time to evaluate their options.
Employees may receive a lump sum payment when being made redundant which may mean you have some flexibility when looking for another job. It may offer an opportunity to widen your horizons.
One way to stay involved with your profession is to look at volunteering overseas.
With VSO you can volunteer for between 6 months to two years. You will continue to work in your professional field, so will continue to build on your skills and experience.
However, you will also gain from the experience of living and working with a local community abroad. All costs are covered, so you are not left out of pocket as a VSO volunteer.
