Volunteer work in China

Though China is one of the up and coming world powers, there is still a great need for help in many areas.
China is becoming increasingly stratified as rural areas are being left behind as the more metropolitan youth of the rising middle class are choosing a much more self-centred, Western way of life.
Disposable income in China does not necessarily go back to the communities that need it most.
An attitude of consumerism and leanings towards capitalism among the middle classes is allowing some communities to be economically and culturally abandoned - particularly in the rural areas of China.
VSO’s work in China focuses on engaging Chinese people to participate in their own development and for VSO to be a broker of relationships and provide knowledge that encourages Chinese people to volunteer in China and overseas.
This work includes consulting on volunteer management best practice, promoting volunteering in corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies, and supporting the government of China to develop effective policies for volunteer work and CSR.
