Volunteer work El Salvador

In every country where VSO works, local staff works with local organisations to formulate a development plan specific to the needs of that country.

In El Salvador, an area that has been identified as having enormous potential for positive change, is the support of small businesses and micro-enterprises. By promoting such enterprises, VSO volunteers work to create alternative sources of income for the people; giving them a sense of empowerment they have never had before.

Environmental protection is another priority in El Salvador for VSO. Much of  the work in El Salvador helps to promote local economic activity based on an area's sustainable resources. As part of this work, VSO helps conduct and implement resource and ecosystem assessments.

In their effort to promote decentralization and encourage local participation in the decision-making process, VSO helps local people establish links with policy/advocacy networks. Volunteer work in El Salvador also includes an effort to document and adapt indigenous techniques of resource management and land use.

Volunteering in El Salvador involves much youth-oriented work. VSO works to promote economic activity that creates jobs for young people, as well as initiatives to provide job training for the youth of the country. In this way, VSO is working for the long-term future of El Salvador. 

At present, only volunteers eligible to apply through CUSO-VSO in North America are able to volunteer in El Salvador.
