Volunteer work in Ethiopia

Voluntary Work in Ethiopia - Michela Norman

VSO has been working in Ethiopia since 1996. Currently, there are over one hundred volunteers working there in the areas of education and health, making Ethiopia one of VSO's largest country programmes.

VSO’s health volunteers all work to support the delivery of the National Health Sector Development Plan which aims to improve the population’s health through quality prevention, basic curative and rehabilitative services.

VSO is also committed to improve child and maternal health by working with strategic partners including the federal ministry of health to implement health management information systems and integrate family planning, reproductive health and HIV and AIDs services.

VSO volunteers, work to support improvement in education management and teacher training – to impact on the quality of education delivered. Senior teachers and education managers are working at national government institutions to support delivering national policies. Experienced teachers are working regionally to deliver training programmes.
