Volunteer work in Guyana

Volunteer work in Guyana Education Cheryl Evans

VSO’s work in Guyana focuses on disability, education and secure livelihoods.

People with disabilities receive very limited support in Guyana and do not have many opportunities available to them. VSO volunteers therefore work with organisatons that act for people with disabilities in order to support them in improving government and public knowledge of disability issues, encouraging changes in legislation and expanding rehabilitation services.

VSO's volunteer work in education in Guyana focuses on improving the quality of education through curriculum development, teacher training and management support for regional education offices. Volunteers also work to improve the provision of and access to special education for children with disabilities.

VSO has worked in Guyana in secure livelihoods since 2008, working to support rural people to have increased control over their livelihoods; increasing the income of marginalised communities and looking at ways to increase production in an environmentally friendly manner.
