Volunteer work in Mozambique

Voluntary work in MozambiqueVSO's volunteer work in Mozambique focuses on a number of factors, including education; HIV/AIDS awareness, national volunteering, and promoting secure livelihoods.

The educational system is poor in Mozambique, and female students in particular have great difficulty completing coursework. VSO volunteers are working in Mozambique to promote new learning methods, teacher training programmes, and support for girls in their educational goals. Volunteers are also working to find ways to keep teachers motivated in the classroom by enabling their voices to be heard through the "Listening to Teachers" reports.

VSO volunteers also work to promote awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Mozambique. Currently, the life expectancy in Mozambique is only 48 years, and that number is expected to decrease in the coming years. Fifteen percent of the adult population is currently living with HIV/AIDS. People are volunteering in Mozambique to increase the efficiency of health care management and to promote the rights of people suffering from HIV or AIDS.

Volunteers in Mozambique are also working to create development programmes for agriculture and rural development to help relieve poverty and to teach people how to most effectively work the land. A majority of arable land is not currently in use, so volunteers are teaching farmers how to use their resources to their benefit. VSO is also inviting people from Mozambique to join their volunteer programmes.
