Volunteer work in Namibia
VSO’s work in Namibia currently focuses on Education, Health and Secure Livelihoods.
Despite much progress in improving school attendance rates, there are still some communities and schools that have not felt this support. This is further complicated by HIV and AIDS requiring teachers and students to be away from school due to ill health or the need to care for family members.
Volunteer Education managers and teacher trainers work in the most disadvantaged areas of Namibia to ensure that education management and policies reflect the needs of schools and that training and professional development support for teachers means that children are getting a good standard of education
VSO volunteers work to support the 200,000 plus people living with HIV and AIDS in Namibia to access effective support services. Volunteers also work to improve awareness about prevention and treatment services.
Many of the 150,000 disabled in Namibia have no healthcare, education or job opportunities available to them. VSO is one of the few development organisations working to improve the standard of living of disabled people. Volunteers work with national and regional agencies to eradicate stigma and support disabled people to find work and get an education.
