Volunteer work in Nigeria

Volunter work in NigeriaVSO is an international development charity, working in underdeveloped countries to fight poverty, and assist in building a sustainable infrastructure. One of VSO's longest running programmes is in Nigeria.

Nigeria has the second highest number of AIDS and HIV infected residents, with an estimated three million people between the ages of 15 and 49 living with HIV and AIDS. VSO volunteers work with a range of organisations to address the greater need for awareness about prevention and to reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS.

VSO education volunteers work to improve the quality and relevance of education in schools, working in management and training roles. Education managers help to improve the management systems of government institutions while teacher trainers improve teaching qualifications in Nigeria.

Under the secure livelihoods programme, VSO volunteers work alongside civil society agencies to improve access to employment and food production opportunities for poor communities;promoting small-scale entrepreneurship, encouraging young people and women to take up vocational skills training and raising awareness of ways to increase food production.
