Volunteer work in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS infection of any
country in the world, estimated at 15.3 percent in 2008.
The political insecurity caused VSO to suspend international volunteering
in Zimbabwe in 2004. In January 2011 the international volunteer
programme resumed and the first volunteer placement commenced.
VSO is actively working to help lower the rate of HIV/AIDS infection in
this country and to help those who are suffering from the disease or who
have been orphaned as a result of family death from HIV/AIDS.
VSO Zimbabwe has been an active partner in helping promote AIDS education and treatment counselling, as well as providing funds for children who have been orphaned because of AIDS.
