Global Xchange

Global Xchange aims to support the development of active global citizens, committed to working for positive change within communities. The programme is joint partnership between VSO and the British Council and is broken down into three programmes:
Youth Xchange
Youth Xchange is a six-month exchange programme that gives young people from different countries a unique opportunity to work together, to develop and share valuable skills and to make a practical contribution where it is needed in local communities. You will live and work alongside 17 other young people .
You will work with your counterpart in a local charity or community organisation for four days of the working week. Your volunteer placements will be structured so that you are able to make a positive and practical contribution to the community you are living in.
Volunteer placements are extremely varied and have included:
peer education programmes
working as care assistants with older people and people with physical and mental disabilities
working with children as educational assistants
working with marginalised communities
assisting with educational health projects.
Community Xchange
Community Xchange is an international professional development programme for community workers and practitioners. Through a range of activities Community Xchange aims to build the skills of participants to facilitate the positive participation of young people as active global citizens, and develop inter cultural dialogue that makes a positive difference to their communities.
Teams of 30 community workers and practitioners, with equal numbers from the UK and an overseas partner country, work in host communities for three weeks in the UK and three weeks in the overseas country. Over the course of an exchange participants take part in work attachments, job shadowing, and community events to promote active citizenship among young people.
Regional Xchange
Regional Xchange is a multi-lateral volunteer exchange programme. Its aim is to increase intercultural dialogue and learning across a range of overseas regions.
We are currently piloting a six-month bilateral exchange involving 24 volunteers from five sub-Saharan African countries and the UK. The volunteers will take part in a six-month bilateral exchange.
