Tony du Sautoy leading a workshop in Sri Lanka

Specialist Assignments > Case Study - Tony Du Sautoy

Organisational Development Advisor in Sri Lanka

Tony trained as a lawyer, but has spent much of his career working in public sector, local government and NGO senior management. He travelled to Sri Lanka in January 2006, accompanied by his wife Dinah.

Tony spent 5 weeks working for the NGO SWEED (Social Welfare, Economical and Environmental Developers Foundation) as a Organisational Development Adviser. SWEED is dedicated to the needs of families in the eastern part of the country, who’ve been displaced by conflict and the tsunami. Its approach is based on community participation and integration.

Tony’s objective was to support SWEED’s strategic development. He worked with its managers and staff, setting up a new organisational structure and developing a revised business plan. Much of his work involved building up the human resource systems, to ensure staff have fair and equal working environments. Tony’s wife Dinah was not registered as a volunteer, but she had the necessary skills to help out with the administration involved. Tony made several recommendations for improvement, all of which have since been fully taken up by SWEED. Ultimately Tony and Dinah helped make SWEED a more effective and efficient organisation.
