Specialist Assignments > What happens next?

The Volunteer Journey

  • Specialist assignments come in over time from our partners overseas. One of our Placement Advisers will contact you if an assignment comes up that they think you might be right for.
  • If you express interest and are available for an assignment, your CV will be sent to the relevant VSO programme office. The programme office will discuss your CV with the local partner organisation to assess your suitability for the assignment.
  • During this period various procedures will be undertaken, including medical clearance, Criminal Records Bureau checks, travel and visa arrangements.
  • To help you prepare for your assignment, you値l be asked to attend a weekend briefing session at our training centre in Birmingham. You値l also be encouraged to undertake self-briefing on the country and region, using websites, guides and other resources.
  • On arrival at your destination country, you値l receive a briefing from the VSO programme office before you begin your assignment.
  • On completion of the assignment you値l be asked to report on the extent to which the agreed objectives were achieved.
  • After completing any outstanding tasks relating to your assignment, you値l remain eligible for future assignments.
