Options for recent graduates

Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL)

With a degree, a TEFL qualification and some experience you could be a TEFL teacher in China. You can help disadvantaged communities to access further education, to exercise their rights and to find employment.

If you're interested in studying for a TEFL certificate, the Trinity TESOL and Cambridge CELTA courses are internationally recognised.

Jobs for qualified maths and science teachers

If you've got a PGCE or BEd in maths or science, you could be working as a maths teacher in Africa. You can help to address the shortage of trained maths and science teachers in African schools.

To do other volunteer jobs, you’ll need two years’ work experience

Our volunteers work with local colleagues and communities to empower them to fight disadvantage, take control of their future and fulfil their potential. You'll need at least two years’ work experience in your field to be able to teach, train and advise your colleagues.

Youth programmes for 17-25 year olds

We have two youth programmes for people aged 17-25 with an interest in volunteering. The World Youth programme is for 6 months and the Youth for Development programme for 12 months.

Challenge events

You can go overseas with VSO without becoming a volunteer - by taking part in one of our overseas challenge events. Trek in Peru or Nepal to raise funds and see the impact of our work for yourself.
