Volunteering

STEP ONE: Search for opportunities > Eco-tourism Advisor

VSO has an increasing number of requests for eco-tourism advisors to work in sustainable tourism development. Volunteers would work to improve the livelihoods of poor rural communities by generating income and creating employment opportunities through tourism activities.

Necessary qualifications and experience

Eco-tourism posts require a degree in eco-tourism, ecology, conservation or a related field and two years related work experience. Experience of training, working with communities, public relations and marketing are desirable.

Types of opportunity available

Eco-tourism volunteers train and advise non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community-based organisations (CBOs) or local governmental organisations in participatory eco-tourism development. The aim is to enhance their work with local communities and improve their marketing and publicity skills. Volunteers also work with communities to develop and implement community-based eco-tourism activities and increase awareness about environmental issues.
