Volunteering

STEP ONE: Search for opportunities > IT Teacher / Trainer

Right now we’re looking for experienced IT teachers and trainers to improve ICT teaching skills in developing communities in Africa. You could be sharing your skills in countries like Ethiopia, Namibia, South Africa or Tanzania.

You’ll most likely be working in a teacher training college or university, integrating ICT into the training curriculum, developing training documentation and delivering classes. You might also help with network, hardware and software maintenance and troubleshooting.

Skills needed to volunteer in IT

We're looking for IT professionals with a broad range of IT skills, such as network administration, hardware and software maintenance, database knowledge and troubleshooting. Some placements require formal teaching qualifications and experience, for others, informal training experience such as training new staff in your work place is sufficient.

If you have sound technical skills but want to develop your management or people skills before volunteering, visit www.it4c.org.uk for short local opportunities before taking your skills overseas.

If you're aged 18 to 25 you could take part in one of our youth volunteering programmes. Find out more here.
