STEP ONE: Search for opportunities > Mental Health Nurse
We need mental health nurses to help improve the provision of quality mental health services in developing communities. We are currently experiencing an increasing demand for mental health nurses to support the development of the mental health sector in Sri Lanka, where five to ten percent of the population are believed to suffer from mental health problems.
Necessary qualifications and experience
You’ll need to be a Registered Nurse (RMN) with at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience in the mental health sector. Some level of training, supervisory or teaching experience is also required.
Types of opportunity available
Volunteer psychiatric nurses work in hospitals, or in community based roles. Jobs will involve teaching or training colleagues, clients and carers. You could be developing training courses, undertaking ward-based supervision or training and teaching.
If you're aged 18 to 25 you could take part in one of our youth volunteering programmes. Find out more here.
